Are you wondering about what to do for Valentine’s Day while supporting our local artists and venues? For those of us that live in the New York metro area the choices and possibilities are endless. Living in the great New York City metro area has its perks. Granted we are forever surrounded by noise, chaos, traffic and cranky fellow commuters but overall it is a great area to live, dine, and support.
Valentine’s Day at the MoMA – Though their Valentine’s for two tour is sold out, the museum’s website has great tips and ideas
to help you plan an art-theme date.

If museums are not your thing but you would still like to support the arts, then there are a few plays that have caught my eye and are on my list of must see. They are playing at “El Repertorio Español.”
1. “En El Tiempo de Las Mariposas” – . A chance at reviewing Dominican history and how these brave sisters inspired a nation to fight a dictator, based on Julia Alvarez’s internationally acclaimed novel. Today’s show is at 3:00 pm.
2. “Asi Que Pasen Cinco Años” marking 75th since the passing of one of our greatest writers/poets Federico García Lorca.

”Cuban Operator Please tells the story of Abel, the son of Cuban exiles, as he explores his complicated relationship with his parents’ estranged homeland while waiting for news concerning his father’s impending death.”
Also, today at the NuyoricanPoets Cafe is a Celebration of Black Latina Culture that is scheduled to kick off at 5:00 pm.

Bueno familia, as you already know making your loved one feel special should be more of a daily objective rather than at yearly event but it is the thrill of planning that event that counts. These are my humble suggestions so whatever you choose to do, to mark your Valentine’s Day, just have fun as you add one more page to your book of life and allow cupid into your heart.
Happy Valentine’s Day – Muy Feliz Dia de San Valentin.
