On this day in U.S. Latino history:
Sonia Sotomayor was sworn-in as the 111th justice of the U.S. Supreme Court. Sotomayor became the first Hispanic and only the third woman to ever serve on the nation’s highest court. President Obama nominated the 55-year-old federal appeals court judge to replace retired Justice David Souter . In addition to being the first Hispanic, Sotomayor also became the first justice to be sworn in on television.
