Gingrich Wants Poor Children To Work As Janitors, Calls Child Labor Laws “Stupid”

by Efrain Nieves

Newt Gingrich called Child Labor Laws “stupid” in an appearance at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government. Gingrich states:

You’re totally poor. You’re in a school that is failing with a teacher that is failing. I’ve tried for years to have a very simple model…. Most of these schools ought to get rid of the unionized janitors, have one master janitor and pay local students to take care of the school. The kids would actually do work, they would have cash, they would have pride in the schools, they’d begin the process of rising.

Don’t bother helping the children receive a better education, forget the hours of volunteer work, drop the scholarship programs and organizations built to give the unfortunate a chance to succeed; Mr. Gingrich has the plan that will give all poor children the chance to chase their dreams.

Before we all jump on the love train and praise Gingrich for his immigration reform stance, remember his other position on poverty “like in 1994, when he argued we should reduce welfare rolls by shipping children of the poor off to orphanages” (nj.com).

26.6% of all Latinos and 27.4% of  all Blacks in the U.S. live in poverty. After reading these statistics, whose children do you think Gingrich is talking about?
